MANSFIELD PARK

MASFIELD PARK

Fanny was the eldest daughter from a poor family with 9 children. Her parents didn’t have enough money to bring up all the family although Mss Price’s sisters helped her sending money to buy clothes and food. In this way Fanny went to Mansfield Park to live with her uncles, who were very wealthy and lived in a luxurious villa. At first, the girl was very timid and unhappy because she missed the home. Months passed and Fanny started being happy in the new home because Edmund gave her cousin a piece of advice, encouragement and consolation in order to help her. Fanny fell in love with Edmund but he was always with Mary, a lady from a well-known family. At a party, Fanny danced with Henry, Mary’s brother, who asked her to marry him but she refused politely because Edmund was the only person in the world that Fanny loved enough to marry; so she was jealous of Edmund’s friendship with Mary. Henry tried several times to marry Fanny but she never agreed.
One day, Fanny went to Portsmounth, where her real parents lived, because she wanted see them because they had been far from her for a long time. When she was there, the Bestrams, her uncles and cousins, had a lot of problems: one of their sons had an accident and Maria had split up with her husband and was going to marry Henry. Fanny went back to Mansfield Park to help her uncles. Finally, Fanny married Edmund.

1. WHAT´S IT CALLED? WHO´S IT BY? WHAT KIND OF BOOK IS IT?

It’s called Prime Suspect
It’s by Lynda La Plante
It’s a mistery book

2. WHAT´S IT ABOUT?

It’s about a murder investigation.
A young woman is murdered, two policemen find the body in her flat and they begin to investigate the murder. They do an DNA test and find the person’s blood who killed her. They discover that this blood is the same as the man’s who had attacked her a few years ago. He says that he isn’t guilty and he didn’t even know the victim, but the police know that it’s a lie but they can’t prove it.
In the same police department works Jane Tennison, who is a Chief Detective Officer, who had moved to this police department to work on interesting cases, but the rest of the policemen don’t want a woman to work on murder investigations.
Suddenly the Chief Detective Officer who was investigating this case dies of a heart failure and Jane starts to work in a murder.
She has found evidences than connect the suspect with the murder and she interviews the suspect. He recognizes than he had stayed with the girl but she had got out of his car and he had come home alone. She asks him where his car is but he tells her than someone stole it. She knows that it’s false and if she finds the car she will have evidence to arrest him.
One day the suspect goes to the garage where his car is. She follows him and she finds knives, photographs of the victims and their clothes.
Finally, she can arrest him and she wins the respect of the policemen she commands.

3. WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT? WHY?

I think it is an interesting book, not for the story, because the plot isn’t very interesting, but it’s a problem in this society. I think women can work in the same jobs as men and they have to earn the same money as men.
I disagree with our central government when they say than in every job here have to be the same number of women as men, and this solution isn’t the correct one. In each job there has to be the most skilled person.

1. WHAT ´S IT CALLED? WHO´S IT BY? WHAT KIND OF BOOK IS IT?

The tittle of the book I´ve read was “Lord Jim” by Joseph Conrad. It was a book about adventures that Jim lived in all of his life.

2. WHAT´S IT ABOUT?

Jim was a boy who liked books of ships and exciting stories of the most important captains and theirs big and heavy ships.
When he was only 16 years old he worked as a chief mate in a small ship called “Patna”, but Jim lost his job because the ship sank.
Jim knew a man whose name was Marlow. Marlow helped him to find a job on a ship or in ports. But people didn´t want to pay Jim because everybody knew about the disaster of the “Patna”, so Marlow helped Jim and he sent Jim to Patusan where he found a job with a man called Doramin.; he was a good friend of Jim.
In Patusan there were lot of wars between Doramin and the Raja, who was an evil boy. Jim helped Doramin to attack and beat the Raja.
Also Doramin had a son and he wanted to fight and Jim let him. But, when Doramin´s son died fighting, his father was very sad and he had his revenge killing Jim.
Jim died.

3. WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT? WHY?

I think that this book is good for people who want to read adventures and adventures of ships. It ´s a book which entertains you all the time, since the first to the end.
Lord Jim is short because it has about 70 pages, but it is hard to read because there is too much vocabulary that you don´t understand and you have to find out in a dictionary.
My personal opinion in general is that the book I read was too nice for me.

The Body

The book it’s called “The Body” and it was written by Stephen King. It’s a drama book.

It’s the story of four friends, Gordie Lachance, Chris Chambers, Teddy Duchamp, and Vern Tessio. The narrator is Gordie when he became an adult. They have difficult lives, and they trust one another.
One evening, while they are listening to the radio on their tree house, the hear the notice of Ray Brower, a boy from the city, who has disappeared and everybody thinks he’s dead because of a train, which probably hit him in the forest. They have heard the story before, from older boys, so they decide to go and find his body before other people.
They tell their parents that they are going to camp in one of them’s house all night, and in the morning, they start walking following their adventure.
They start their walk following the tracks and then, they decide who was going to buy the food. Then, they have to cross a bridge, a train bridge, before the train appears, because they might be hit by it. So they cross it one by one. But while the two last boys were crossing, the train appeared and they had to run as fast as they could.
When it was getting dark they decide to camp to pass the night. They had to stay awake in turns to keep guard because in the middle of the night they started to hear noises which scared them. While Gordie was doing his turn, the sun started to rise, so he went for a walk. He sat on a railway and suddenly, a deer appeared by him. He felt scared, but the deer didn’t do anything, she only passed away. Then, they all woke up and kept walking.
The day was really hot, and finally they found water, so they dived in. when they came out, the noticed their bodies were full of leeches, and they started to take them off madly.
They kept walking and the sky became full of grey clouds and a storm came over them. That was when they found the body of Ray Brower, and the older boys arrived on their cars. One of them was Ace Merrill, Chris’s brother. Teddy and Vern ran away. Gordie was ready to fight when Chris used a gun, which he had taken from his father. So the other boys ran to their car back to the city. Then Gordie and Chris met Vern and Teddy and asked them why they had run when they needed them. Finally they decided to return to the village without taking Brower’s body, because, the older boys will probably tell the police the story and they would be in big trouble.

I really like the story because it’s very interesting and you can’t leave it till you finish reading it. It’s a very good story and it tells how did the boys grow after they found the body.

Pride and Prejudice

SUMMARY

Pride and prejudice is a humorous story of love and life among English nobility during the Georgian era. The classic tale of love and valves unfolds in the class-conscious England of the late 18th century. Mr. Bennet is an English gentleman living in Hartford sire with his overbearing wife. The Bennet five daughters (beautiful Jane, the clever Elizabeth, the bookish Mary, the immature Kitty and the wild Lydia) have been raised by their mother, with one propose in life: fiding a husband .Unfortunately for the Bennets, if Mr. Bennet dies their house will be inherited by a distant cousin whom they have never met, so the family’s future happiness and security is dependant on the daughters making good marriages. Life is uneventful until the arrival in the neighbour hood of the rich gentleman Mr. Bingley, who rents a large house so he can spend the summer in the country. Mr. Bingley brings with him his sister and the dashing and richer but proud Mr. Darcy: Love is soon in the air for one of the Bennet sisters, while another may have jumped to a hasty prejudgment. For the Bennet sisters many trials and tribulations stand between them and their happiness, including class, gossip and scandal.

MY OPINION

I didn’t like this story very much because it has a lot of different characters. I lost the line of the lecture several time s probably it can be also because it has new vocabulary that I had to look up in the dictionary. This book is very long and it’s more difficult than the books I usually read. It’s a romantic story and I don’t like these types of stories, I like action books. In addiction I wouldn’t recommend it.

LETTERS FOR A SPY

1. WHAT’S IT CALLED? WHO’S IT BY? WHAT KIND OF BOOK IS IT?

The book is called ‘Letters For a Spy’. It was written by John Hare. It is a mystery book.

2. WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

The book is about a child, Bill, who went with his uncle Richard to Prague. They went to the Kadlecs’ house. In that house Richard’s cousin, Wendy, her husband, Vasil, and Vasil’s father lived together. They went to that country because Richard had to check up on a printing job in Prague. The Kadlecs were dissidents because Vasil was married to Wendy and she was a foreigner. And when Bill and Richard arrived they needed careful watching. Richard tried to go with Bill to visit different interesting places when he wasn’t very busy. One day, Bill met Misha. She said to him that she was a friend of Wendy, she gave him something for Wendy and told him that it was a present for Vasil. But when he was going home he left it on the train. When he arrived home he talked to Wendy and she explained to him that it was a very important parcel. Bill had to go to the station to get the parcel, and then he had to go to Dvorak museum to leave a letter there. Another day, Bill went with Richard and the Kadlecs to the Palace of Culture. While they were watching the performance someone killed a member of the audience. The member was Misha. Wendy said to Richard and Bill that things weren’t good and they weren’t safe, so they should leave the country. Finally, after a lot of difficulties, they go away and Richard explained Bill what had happened. He said to him that they were fighting for freedom and that Misha was helping them. The plan was that she would get them the last vital piece of the china puzzle, which contains a message with information damaging to the Russians. And that piece was the parcel which Misha had given him.

3. WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT? WHY?

I liked this book because I love mystery stories. These kind of stories have a lot of intrigue until you get to the end of the book. The book is very interesting and it seems something that it’s possible to happen in the real world, because in some countries the governments do things like these. They have the foreigners very controlled and they don’t accept that somebody from their own country marries a foreign and they watch over them.

BOOK REVIEW

The book is called “Pride and Prejudice” and it’s by Jane Austen. It’s a romantic novel.

The story is set in England in the XVIII century. Mr and Mrs Bennet have five daughters and they want a good marriage to ensure the future of all the girls. One day they receive the news that a young and rich man (Mr Bingley), is going to move to the next house (Netherfield Hall). Mr Bingley arrives with his sisters and his friend Mr Darcy. In the first ball, Mr Bingley dances with Jane one of Mr Bennet daughters but Mr Darcy turns Elizabeth down and she hears the insult.
Mr Bingley and Jane fall in love together. Darcy begins to admire Lizzy but she begins to have a bad impression of him.
The military men arrive to the neighbourhood. Lizzy meets Mr Wickham, one of the soldiers and he tells her that he knows Mr Darcy and that he was very unfair to him. The Bennet family receives the visit of Mr Collins, a relative, who is going to inherit the house and the one who offers to marry one of the girls. Jane and Elizabeth turn him down so Charlotte Lucas (Lizzy’s friend), accepts to marry him.
Some weeks later, Elizabeth visits Mr Collins and his wife. They present the girl to Lady Catherine de Bourg who is Mr Darcy’s aunt. Mr Darcy tells the girl that he loves her bur she refuses the offer and she accuses him of saddening his sister and of the bad life of Mr Wickham. Then he sends a letter to her explaining all the things and she starts to think differently about the man.
After the problems that he solves to the family Bennet in secret, she realizes that she loves him. Darcy and Bingley come back to the neighbourhood so Elizabeth and Jane begin to have hope.

I think that it is a good romantic novel. With it we can observe the type of life that the women have in this time and that their lives consisted of looking for a good husband who ensures their future.

WHAT´S IT CALLED? WHO´S IT BY? WHAT KIND OF BOOK IS IT?

The book is called <>. It’s written by Stephen King and it’s an adventure and also mysterious book.

WHAT´S IT ABOUT?

The story starts with the narration of a man who shows his feelings about his memories in his childhood.
He told us they were at the age of twelve or thirteen. He was in a group of boys (Teddy, Chris, Vern, Gordie) and tells us about their bad lives.
One day they discovered that one boy has disappeared and a member of the group, Vern Tessio, discovered that his brother, wanted to find this body earlier
than anyone. Then Vern told his friends that he knew where the body was, near the tracks and the bushes. They decided to find the body earlier
than Vern’s brother’s friends.
They spent some nights out of their houses sleeping in tents, and in their adventure they realised how cruel the world can be.
At the end, Vern and his friends are the first to find the body, and inmediately Vern’s brother’s friends came there and they have a fight.
Suddently, Chris showed a gun and Vern’s brother’s friends left.
Finally, the boys decided to call the police to find the body. When the summer finished and all these things too, they had to return to school.
The book finishes saying how the boy’s lives finish, for example, Vern Tessio, was killed in a fire that destroyed a house in 1966. Chris went to university to study law. But in 1968, he was killed in a restaurant; Teddy crashed his car into a tree and died; and, the last member? Now he is a writer.

WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT? WHY?

While I was reading this story, it made me feel a bit bad, because, this book represents the bad lives that children had at this time, for example, although Teddy’s father was all day hitting him, he still loves his father, or Vern’s parents that didn’t have enough savings to survive. In spite of that, the children continue with their lives.
I think this book is well written and it makes you like the characters.
I liked very much this book.

WHAT´S IT CALLED? WHO´S IT BY? WHAT KIND OF BOOK IS IT?

The book is called ‘Ivanhoe’. It was written by Sir Walter Scott.
It’s an adventure and fiction book. But it is based on real events
as King Richard I (Coeur de Lion), the fight between the Saxons and Normans and the Christian armies on a Crusade against the Saracens in Palestine.

WHAT´S IT ABOUT?

In England during the twelfth century:
King Richard had been fighting in Palestine and he had returned to England. The Saxon Knight Ivanhoe who was a member of the English army under King Richard had returned too. Ivanhoe had been disinherited by his father Cedric, a noble Saxon, because he loved Lady Rowena, a pretty woman who descended from the old Saxon Kings. Some Norman Knight Templars as Guilbert, Front-de-Boeuf... had returned from the crusade too. There were big problems in England so King Richard and Ivanhoe covered up their face and then they were the Black Knight and Palmer or the Disinherited Knight. While Prince John, King Richard’s brother was planning with other Norman how to replace his brother in the England throne.
On the other hand Ivanhoe defeated all Norman champions in the Ashby tournament and he discovered his face, but he is wounded and Rebecca, the daughter of a rich Jew cured him and she fell in love with him.
Prince John wanted to marry Lady Rowena and De Bracy, a noble Norman, so his men wore the green clothes of an outlaw and they attacked and captured the Saxons (Cedric, Rowena, Ivanhoe, Rebecca and her father...) in a castle. Locksley, a famous archer, his men of Sherwood Forest and the Black Knight rescued the Saxons. But Guilbert, the Templar fell in love with Rebecca and she was accused of being a witch and bewitched Guilbert to save Rebecca from the castle by the Order of Templars. Ivanhoe combated against Guilbert to save Rebecca. But during the combat Guilbert died without any wound because God killed him.
Finally the Black Knight shows his face and all the people discover that he is King Richard. He wants Locksley to serve him and Locksley o Robin Hood accepts. Cedric approves Lady Rowena and Ivanhoe marriage. Rebecca and her father leave to Spain. Ivanhoe and Rowena are very happy, but Ivanhoe remembered Rebecca too many times.

WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT? WHY?

It’s a novel, which I have seen as a film and I have read some books in many different versions, but all of them are based on the history. The characters and the story are known to me. I liked the book because I like history novels.
In this book there are a lot of topics as love, friendship, magic, honour, bravery... that makes the story more pleasant.
Above all it has got a good end.
But it was more difficult to read than other books because there were a lot of new words and expressions and some of them aren’t used nowadays.
Moreover I liked it a lot because Robin Hood, Ivanhoe, King Richard... were heroes that I like to read about, although some things are true and most of them are false.

The book is called “The creative impulse and other stories”. It is by W.Somerset Maugham.
This book talks about three different stories.
The first one is quite romantic quite it talks about success.
The second story is mysterious and funny.
The last one is romantic and it´s about the differences between different ages.

“The creative impulse”
Mrs Albert Forrester´s was 57 years old. She had written some books without success, but when she wrote her best book which talked about a detective story, she became a great writer.
Every Tuesday afternoon, people came to her house to talk about books. Moreover, the had a cup of tea and she gave them some pieces of advices. Her husband was always with her, but he wasn´t happy.
At first he talked to his wife´s friends but after few minutes he was bored and uninterested, so he went out with their cook, Mrs Bulfinch because they were I love and they were very happy together.
When his wife realised it she didn´t believe it so she decided to go where her husband was to ask him why he did that, and then he explained everything to her.
Finally she understood that her husband needed to be with Mrs Bulfich. She was a little bit unhappy, nevertheless they were the ones who gave her the good idea for writing a different new book, “Achilles Statue” a book that talked about a detective story.

“Jane”
W.Somerset Maugham had been travelling in China but he returned to London where he was invited by his friend, Mrs Tower. When he was at her house, she introduced him to her sister-in law, Jane who was widow and she will get married soon.
One day, Jane introduced them to her boyfriend, Gilbert who was much younger than her,, so her sister-in law was angry. She didn’t understand what Jane was doing because Gilbert only wanted her for her money, but finally it wasn´t true.
When they go married, they spent their honeymoon in Paris. There Gilbert persuaded Jane to buy new clothes and to her hair cut, so she would look unique.
After few months they came back to London and Jane announced that they would separate because Jane had found another person who was the same age as her more or less.
Gilbert was in love but he wanted to see his glad wife.
Jane had success because she always told the truth, so she was wonderful and funny person.

“The round dozen”
W.Somerset Maugham was sick, so he decided to spend a few at Elsom, a small seaside town.
In Elsom he met a family which was at the same hostel as him, so he was really interested in this family, an old gentleman and two ladies, her wife and her niece.
Their niece was really beautiful but he realised that she was quite old and she was wearing old-fashioned clothes.
He understood that when he old lady´s uncle explained to him that er niece had been abandoned by her husband so she wore those clothes.
In the afternoon he usually walked along the seafront and he met Mortimer Ellis, a well-known bigamist. He had had eleven wives, but he didn´t like this number, e would have liked the Round Dozen.
One day6 Maugham saw how the old lady and Mortimer Ellis talked and he thought about hat they had been talking about the previous day.
Later on he came back to the hostel and here he med old lady´s uncle and his wife who was crying, her niece had escaped.
In this moment W.Somerset Maugham realised that Mortimer Ellis had made the Round Dozen.

I liked reading this book so much because it was about three different stories so I wasn´t boring.
The story I liked most was the second because it was very interesting and amazing.
Furthermore I learned a lot of new words and some expressions. Moreover, this book is quite easy and I recommend it.

FALL FROM INNOCENCE: THE BODY

1- WHAT´S IT CALLED? WHO´S IT BY? WHAT KIND OF BOOK IS IT?

The book is called “Fall from Innocence: The body. It is written by Stephen King.
I think it is a mystery book because there is a dead man and nobody knows why he is dead.

2- WHAT´S IT ABOUT?

His name was Gordie. He was twelve years old when he saw a dead person. He has a gang, Teddy, Chris, Vern Tessio were his friends. Teddy´s father mistreated him but on the other hand, Teddy was proud of his father and he always visited him in a hospital where there were mad people from the war.
One day Vern came to the tree house and said that Ray Brower, a child who was the same age as them, was dead. They decided to find the body and they said to their parents they were camping in Vern´s field. Gordie said it to his parents, but they rarely listened to him because they only loved his brother, Denny who was dead. They started to walk. Chris took a gun because, maybe, they would have to use it. Chris was the bravest and the strongest child. They climbed so they were sweating a lot. After that they realized that they had forgotten the food. They saw how much money they had to buy cokes and some humbergers. They continued walking till Milo saw them. Milo started to say that he would tell their parents what they were doing, buy they went out of there while he was screaming. Then, the sat beside the trees and they drank and smoked like old people.
Suddenly, they heard a noise that seemed like a woman´s voice. Then silence started again. After that, Gordie found a deer on the tracks. But he said nothing about that to his friends.
Many hours later, they started to walk again and they thought they were closer to the body. But they weren´t as close as they thought. They had to walk for ten miles. Is started to rain heavily. However, after that the day changed. They went on walking in pairs along the tracks. While they were walking, they found a white hand beside a lot of bushes. They didn´t know where the rest of Ray Brower was, then they found the body between the tracks. His hair was dark red, he was wearing a green T- shirt and blue jeans. Gordie realized that, that man wasn´t going to get up anymore. The shoes were so far from him and they didn´t know why. Billy, Vern´s oldest brother, Charlie, the hardest guy in town, and Ace met the four children and they told them to leave. They were going to take the dead man. Maybe these three guys could hurt these children. Chris had a gun and they didn´t know who would report the finding of the dead man. Chris said to them that they had to get back into their cars. Finally they went back. Nobody wanted to take the body. Chris finally started to cry, they never had seen his crying. They were sitting when Teddy said he wanted to take the man. Chis said no and he said that they were going to walk fast back to the bridge. They started to walk without saying anything. Finally they were in front of their tree house. Chris told Gordie that he was sure that Teddy and Vern were going to tell everything.
At last, Ace called the police and told them where the body was. The last day of the month, Ace and Fuzzy hit Gordie and Teddy many times and they gave them a large number of injuries. Teddy and Gordie drifted away and they discovered a new gang where people do what they said.

At the end of the book it is written:
Vern was killen in a fire that destroyed a house.
Teddy´s car crashed into a tree and he died.
Chris went to university to study law, but in his restaurant he got a knife and he was killed.
Gordie is a writer.

3- WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT? WHY?

I don´t like the book so much because the story is boring and predictable. At the beginning I didn´t understand the story and there were a lot of new expressions and words. In the middle of the book I was sometimes lost, I think that Stephen King is a little bit hard to read. However I really enjoyed the end, because although it is short, it is easily to understand and surprising.

"La Roca"

My favourite film is called 'La Roca'. It´'s an action and thriller film and it was shot in Alcatraz island and San Francisco.
It's directed by Michael Bay and the main actors are Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage. The supporting actors are Ed Harris and Vanessa Marcil.
The plot is a group of renegade marine commandos seizing chemichal weapons and taking over Alcatraz with 81 tourists as hostages. Their leader demands $100 million to be paid as ransom. He is threatening to launch 15 rockets carrying deadly VX gas into San Francisco Bay. An elite team is assembled to penetrate the terrorists' defenses in Alcatraz and neutralize the rockets before time runs out.
I think that it is an exciting film.

David Pozuelo Díaz

Dead Poet's Society

It is a drama film. It is directed by Peter Weir. The main actors are: Robbie Williams as John Keating, Robert Sean Leonard as Neil Perry, Ethan Hawke as Todd Anderson, Gale Hansen as Charlie Dalton, Josh Charles and Dylan Kussman. It takes place in Walton Academy in 1959.

In 1959, it started a new year at Walton Academy. Walton had a victorian style of education. Its students were from powerful families. Todd Anderson has been sent to the school, where his older brother was valedictorian. His roommate was Neil, he was intelligent and popular, but his father was very overbearing and Neil must do the things he wanted. The two, along with their other friends, met Professor Keating, who was their new English literature teacher. He taught his students to find the necessary inspiration to change their lives into something extraordinary, to look for nwe horizons and to carry out their dreams and passions beyond the strict study plans of Walton. For that, they recovered the Dead Poet's Society from the oblivion. It means that a group of students went regularly to a cave near Walton and there, they recited poems, passages of books, and so on. In those sessions they changed their names and, sometimes, their personality. Mr. Keating covered up for them when they went out of the school. Little by little, each, on their own, changed their lives. But in the end, they were discovered and they were obliged to change again. One of the boys, Neil Perry, comitted suicide and another was expelled from the school because he did not sign a paper. John Keating was sacked although some of his students supported him. But I think some of the boys never forgot Mr. Keating and his teachings.

In my opinion this film is brilliant. I think it has lots of riddles and paradoxes. I agree with Mr. Keating's teachings and in my opinion most actors do a very good performance. The most famous sentences which are said by Keating in the film are: Carpe Diem, lads! Seize the day! Make your lives extraordinary! I like the sentence "Carpe Diem" very much. In my opinion it is very important in our lives. The plot is very gripping, amazing and innovative. It has a different point of view of people's life. The film has some amusing scenes and I think that the screenplay is good. I rocommend it to everyone.

It's very well directed by peter jackson and the actors/actresses are brilliant. The most beautiful thing in all the film are its landscapes. They are incredible.I think that new zeland is a very amazing country: It's my favourite film because of its type and its plot. I think that the book is Better than the film and this is why i recomended this book and this film.

AlbA

MYSTIC RIVER

It is a thriller directed by Clint Eastwood. The main actor is an incredible Sean Penn but there are also a lot of stars like Kevin Bacon or Tim Robbins, whose performance is excellent (that´s why he won an Oscar).

The film is set in Boston in the seventies and it´s about three kids who are neighbours. One of them has been abducted and sexually abused for several days.

When they get older, they meet again when the oldest daughter of one of them dies.

One of the old friends is now a homicide detective who investigates the murder and the other (the kid who had been abducted some years ago) seems to be the suspect.

I would recommend this film because it´s a very hard story that makes you think about pain and justice.

NOELIA COYA MÉNDEZ

THE OTHERS

It is a thriller film. It takes place in England in 1945. It is directed by Alejandro Amenabar. The main actress is Nicole Kidman and the supporting actor is Christopher Ecclestone and the supporting actress is Fionnula Flanagan.
The film is about a woman, Grace, who lives with her two children in a lonely and big house. She waits for her husband who was fighting in the Second World War. The children suffer an strange ilness and they have to live in a complete darkness. Their lives are based in an strict and orderly way of life but things will change soon in a way which they don't expect. They will see that sometimes the dead's world mixes with the living's world.
I think it is a brilliant film.
I believe that the screenplay is great and the plot is gripping because it takes your attention from the first moment.
It is very exciting because you don't know what would happen at the end and also the end is unexpected.
I think the cast is very appropiate and the main actress, Nicole Kidman is brilliant.
I believe that the soundtrack made by the director is great.

Los lunes al Sol

Amelie

It is a romantic film. I t takes place in Paris in 2001. I t is directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. The main caracters are Audrey Taotou who is Amelie and Mathieu Kassouitz Who is Nino. The soundtrack is by Yann Tiensen.
This film is about the life of Amelie Poulain. Her mother died when she was young and after some years, when she is 22 she moves to Montmatre and works in a bar. One day she finds a little box with toys from a child who lived in her flat a lot of years before. In this moment she decides to give back the box and help the people. When she is taking the underground she sees a man called Nino who works in a sexshop and his hobbie is to take the photos that the people don´t want, and with them he makes an album. He loses the albun and Amelie finds it. To return it back to Nino she invents a lot of situations and they finally fall in love.
I like this film becouse it is diferen from all the other, is not the tipical romantic film. I have seen it about 9 times and like it more each time I see it. The plot is very interesting and the soundtrack is incredible. With Amelie you can live in her wonderful world. I would recoment other films from Jean-Pierre Jeunet like "Long Saturday of Love" "largo Domingo de Noviazgo" I like it a lot too.
